Hawaiian Kona Coffee - taste of the islands

Coffee comes from a wide range of continents including Asia, Africa and South and Central America. You really do have a lot of choices and if you are a coffee lover, then you can enjoy learning the distinctive features of the coffee from each of these areas. However, there is one place where you may not expect it, but where you really can get a fresh and new coffee flavour. That place is Hawaii and Hawaiian Kona Coffee is one of the most popular exports from the Islands.

Kona coffee is the generic term used for all coffee from the Hawaiian Islands. Kona was where coffee was first grown in Hawaii, however, as the popularity of this crop increased, more and more parts of the islands started to switch over to growing coffee. Hawaiian Kona coffee has a distinctive taste and flavour that you will not get from coffees that come from other parts of the world. While it is difficult to describe the taste of Hawaiian Kona Coffee, many people put its subtle taste down to the gentle climate, the rich volcanic soil and the plentiful supply of clean rainfall that is supplied by the Pacific Ocean. Hawaiian Kona coffee is just one more beautiful thing that these famous islands produce.

While Hawaiian Kona coffee is becoming increasingly popular, it is not very cheap. Pure Hawaiian Kona coffee costs up to four or five times as much as coffee from other parts of the world. This is due mainly to higher production costs associated with high land and labour costs in Hawaii. It is also due to the expense of shipping Hawaii’s coffee from the Islands, which is produced in smaller amounts than in other parts of the world. However, you can be confident that Hawaiian Kona coffee growers are provided with a fair price for their crop and can make a sustainable living from this form of agriculture. Labourers are also protected by US labour laws which guarantee them minimum wages and working conditions. This is something that you are not always guaranteed with coffee from other parts of the world. If you would like to try Hawaiian Kona coffee without spending too much money, you can try a cheaper Kona blend, which will usually contain 10% Hawaiian Kona coffee.
