Italian Espresso Coffee has almost as many types as there are pastas in Italy.

Flash back to the Italian coffee

In the past, Italians thought that they had discovered coffee and tried a lot to expand the habit of drinking coffee worldwide. At that time some christen extremists treated coffee as the drink of the devil and discouraged people to have the habit of drinking coffee. Later on it was realized that coffee was, actually, a wonderful drink and since then it continued to gain popularity all over the world irrespective of religion and age.

In the year of 1683, the first coffeehouse was inaugurated in Venice and very soon it became the destination for enjoyable conversation, friendship or even for delicious dishes. Till date this Italian coffee is supposed to be the best because of its traditional value. Actually most of the Italian coffee is very strong in nature and Robusta bean is widely used. Italian added one more step to popularize the coffee when Howard Schultz opened another coffee shop in Milan. Toady it has been converted into a successful coffee shop chain throughout the world.

It will not be exaggeration at all, if it is said that there are as many types of coffee as pastas in Italy. The mood and time specific coffee is having their omnipresence at almost all the coffee shops in Italy. In fact there are several types of Italian coffee machines which prepare coffee with variety of tastes. Espresso maker, classic aluminum espresso coffee maker, lever piston espresso machine and pump driven espresso machine are some of the species of coffee machines. The aluminum espresso coffee machine was invented during 1930’s and was popularly known as the moka express.

In Italy the pronunciation of ‘s’ does matter a lot as far as good coffee is concerned. The espresso and expresso are having two different meanings, where the former means a fast train and the latter one means coffee. This is indeed, a matter of consideration while you order a coffee in Italy.

The Italian does not prefer coffee while they are taking their meal in the afternoon, evening or even at night. But coffee during breakfast is generally welcome. One more thing that should essentially be kept in mind is that espresso is not an after-dinner coffee. It is better to ask for un caffe, per favor if you need a coffee just after your dinner.
